Not only are pimples a bit challenging to treat, but they are also not limited to teen years. Acne can hit you at any age, unfortunately.
Various factors contribute to acne breakouts, and some locations on the body are more susceptible, like the chest and back. However, some easy tactics can help clear things. Here’s a brief rundown on how to get rid of chest and back acne.

What leads to chest and back acne?

There are several reasons behind acne. Knowing how and why pimples form is key to getting rid of them.

Our bodies generate sebum in the glands that are attached to hair follicles. Here, sebum maneuvers its way through hair follicles to protect and moisturize your skin; however, acne can form if dead skin cells and sebum build up.

When this happens, the bacteria multiply and cause an infection. This infection leads to inflammation, which causes pesky pimples to form.

Here are some common causes of chest and back blemishes:

  • Medications
  • Genetics
  • Sweat
  • Hormones
  • Stress
  • Pollution

So if you’re struggling with chest or back acne, chances are you’re also battling facial acne as well.

Also, a research piece by the American Academy of Dermatology shows that specific carbohydrates, such as potato chips and white bread, can increase your blood sugar levels and contribute to acne development.

CHEST AND BACK ACNE TREATMENTS

One can often eliminate acne through lifestyle changes and home remedies. Keep reading to know more.

Post-workout shower

Letting the dirt and sweat sit on your skin post-workout can considerably contribute to an individual developing pimples on the back and chest. So, if you’re someone who hits the gym regularly, taking a shower as soon as possible after your workout is important to help prevent chest and back acne.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells from your pores, which will help keep them clean and clear. You should exfoliate at least once a week using either a physical exfoliant (like sugar or salt), chemical exfoliant (like salicylic acid), or enzymatic exfoliant (like papaya).

Wear loose-fitting clothing

If you’ve ever gone to the gym and come out looking like you’ve been sweating in a sauna, you know the feeling of workout clothes that are too tight. While it might feel like they’re holding everything in place, they’re actually trapping sweat and dirt, rubbing them into your pores. This can cause chest and back acne, as well as body odor.

So, next time you’re getting ready for a workout, make sure to choose clothing that’s loose enough to breathe but not so loose that it gets in the way of your workout. Your skin will thank you for it!

Similarly, working out shirtless against a dirty floor and sweaty gym equipment can also lead to clogged pores.

Try tea tree oil

Consider incorporating tea tree oil into your skincare routine. Not only can it penetrate acne, but it also promotes healthy skin and hair follicles.
Moreover, there are many forms and types of cleansers, lotions, and creams with tea tree oil as an ingredient.

Keep hair off your back

Long hair can add considerable dirt and oil to your back’s skin. Since this is one of the leading causes of acne outbreaks, wash your hair regularly and keep it tied up while exercising.

Select your sunscreen carefully

It’s essential to protect your bareback from UV rays. However, a greasy sunscreen can also lead to clogged pores. So, select your sunscreen carefully and wisely!

Eat healthily

Some research shows that foods with a higher glycemic index (GI) can increase blood sugar, directly impacting acne formation. As a result, it is always a good policy to consume a balanced and healthy diet, which consists of:

  • Fruits
  • Lean protein
  • Vegetables
  • Whole grains

Final Thoughts

Acne is a common skin condition affecting millions of people, both teenagers, and adults, each year. Chest and back acne are especially common since these areas are often covered with clothing and therefore not exposed to the sun and air as much as other parts of the body.

Chest and back acne can be embarrassing and frustrating, but there are ways to treat it. We hope these tips have helped you figure out how to get rid of chest and back acne. We want you to feel confident in your skin!
